#Printmaking at the Wadsworth: A Member’s Experience

I am a member at the Wadsworth Athenuem, proudly so. My annual fees enable me to connect and engage with their expansive collections, and opportunities to meet artists, like Sean Scully. My immersion into the visual arts extends to special programs like my recent visit to the museum’s art studio to learn firsthand what the education staff does. (Did you know they serve Hartford Public School’s students with art classes? Over 3,000 make art and engage with works in the galleries every year!) Resident Teaching Artist Carrie Ricciardelli gave us, eleven members attended, a mini-lesson in printmaking. In my Art History courses, I analyze with my students printmaking works by the Masters, like 17th century artist Albrecht Durer or 19th century Japanese prints, but I have never delved into the process. It was so much fun and a great way to meet other like-minded members which included artists, educators, retirees, a couple from the corporate world. Below is my piece. The phrase “How I go to the woods,” was inspired by a poem by Mary Oliver. 🙂
