I overlay a quote by performance artist Martine Gutierrez on one of her constructed self-portraits that emulate and celebrates Gutierrez’s exploration of her identity as a trans-Latinx woman of indigenous descent. I will explore the artist and her eclectic work in a future podcast but wanted to share this quote by her. I find it so moving and hope you will let her words wash over you, this idea that inspiration comes from the choices we make, that start from within; a curious mindset and as Gutierrez so eloquently says, with “wonder and purpose.”
